Julian Spear
Julian joined Phonogram, (which begat Mercury, now Virgin:EMI), as Head of Promotions, working closely with Brian Shepherd, Roger Ames & Chris Briggs. Julian helped break projects with ABC, Soft Cell, Big Country, Dexys Midnight Runners, Tears For Fears, Dire Straits (including the 3 million-selling ‘Brothers In Arms’ album), Cameo, Def Leppard, INXS, Bon Jovi, Elton John & the Band Aid, three-million-selling single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?'.
Julian was a member of the Phonogram Management Team.
Julian then became Senior Director Of Promotions at A&M, working closely with a broad range of artists including Sheryl Crow, Sting, Soundgarden, Bryan Adams, including the still-record-holding single ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’ – an unsurpassed 16 weeks at No 1, Janet Jackson, Sounds Of Blackness, Extreme, Therapy?, The Bluetones, DJ Shadow, Del Amitri, Dina Carroll, Barry White & the AM:PM label featuring Ultra Naté & Mousse T (amongst many!)
Julian again was part of the company’s Management Team.
When A&M was absorbed into Universal in 1998, Julian formed Red Shadow Ltd, continuing to represent Sting, Sheryl Crow & Suzanne Vega, then also worked with Counting Crows and played an active part in the "Want One" & "Want Two" album projects for Rufus Wainwright. His passion working with Music For Nations helped break Bowling For Soup (‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’ & the ‘Drunk Enough To Dance’ GOLD album) and INME (‘Overgrown Eden’ SILVER debut album). Julian also worked with Mercury on Meatloaf's GOLD ‘Couldn't Have Said It Better’ album, Sony's ‘NYC Man - Best Of Lou Reed’ album & Michael McDonald's ‘Soul Speak’ & Eddy Grant's Best Of – ‘Road To Reparation’ albums, both for Universal Music TV.
For the next six years Julian enjoyed a partnership with Jon Turner – ‘TurnerSpear Ltd’.
The company enjoyed successes with The Maccabees ‘Given To The Wild’ GOLD album & helped develop artists including Foy Vance, Joe Bonamassa, The Afghan Whigs, Robert Cray, Sheryl Crow, The Fratellis, Beth Hart, Cast, Counting Crows, Gary Clark Jr, Joe Jackson & more.
From the start of 2016, Julian again went solo with his own company, the imaginatively named ‘Julian Spear PR’ & has recently been working with Sheryl Crow, Gary Clark Jr, Daughtry…
